About the Ruffed Grouse Society
The Ruffed Grouse Society is a nationwide nonprofit focused on conserving forested landscapes and the natural habitats they provide—especially for the ruffed grouse and the American woodcock. The organization’s long-term aim is to foster varied, healthy forest ecosystems that support wildlife and allow people to enjoy and connect with those places.
Russ and Carole Dyer Chapter Scholarship (Mid-Coast Maine)
Each year the Russ and Carole Dyer Chapter, based in mid-coast Maine, awards a scholarship to a Maine high school senior who plans to pursue a college major that aligns with the RGS mission. The award commemorates George Soule of Freeport, Maine — a local sportsman, renowned decoy carver, and the founder of the Ruffed Grouse Society in Maine.
