Academy of Model Aeronautics Scholarships
Scholarship Sponsored by Academy of Model Aeronautics
We appreciate your interest in the scholarship program offered by the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA). The number and value of scholarships we award each year are contingent on the quantity and quality of applications we receive. We offer scholarships and endowments to graduating high school seniors, with the amount varying based on the applicant's involvement in AMA modeling activities, academic performance, and citizenship achievements. The AMA Scholarship Committee reviews all applications and makes recommendations to the Executive Council, which serves as the AMA’s Board of Directors.
During the application process, you will have the opportunity to apply for any of the following scholarships for which you qualify:
- The Cliff & Nancy Telford Scholarship ($5,000) is awarded annually to the applicant with the most impressive competitive record, as demonstrated by participation in AMA and FAI classified activities. This scholarship is open to both graduating high school seniors and currently enrolled post-secondary students.
- The Planesmen Aerospace Engineering Degree Scholarship ($5,000) is available to a high school senior graduating in the year of the award or a student currently enrolled in an accredited university's engineering school.
- The Planesmen Aircraft Technician/Maintenance Program (ATP/AMP) Scholarship ($2,500) is awarded to a student enrolled in an accredited ATP/AMP school who is pursuing education in ATP/AMP, Airframe and Powerplant, or Avionics Technician.
If you are a high school senior preparing to graduate:
- The Ryan M. Sherrow Memorial Scholarship ($500) is awarded based on the applicant's overall engagement in model aviation as a hobby.
- The Charles H. Grant Scholarship ($500-8000) is awarded based on a variety of significant factors. We consider all aspects of an applicant's background, and a well-rounded applicant may be more qualified than one who excels in only one area. This scholarship is awarded to multiple applicants each year.
If you are currently enrolled in a post-secondary institution:
- The Basil & Dorothy Cooper Memorial Scholarship ($500) is awarded annually to one applicant.
