Worthington Scholarships
Scholarship Sponsored by Worthington Scholarship Foundation
Introduction
If you're ready to invest effort into your future, we are ready to support you with resources to succeed. The Worthington Scholarship Foundation provides awards to graduates of partner public high schools in Maine who plan to attend a participating college or university in the state. Selections are made using a combination of financial need and academic merit, with attention given to representing a wide range of partner high schools. Applicants’ essays, which describe academic interests and life experiences, are also considered. Total awards may reach up to $20,000. Students attending four-year institutions may receive up to $2,500 per semester; those enrolled at community colleges may receive up to $1,500 per semester, and community college recipients may later transfer to a four-year school.
How to Apply
We keep the application simple and use information that many students already collect for other college applications. Start by filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid); to qualify for a Worthington award your Student Aid Index (SAI) must be 30,000 or less.
Next, you must be accepted to one of our partnered Maine two- or four-year colleges. See our partner list in the eligibility section. When the application period is open, submit your application through our online portal before the deadline. The portal begins with a brief eligibility checklist, followed by questions about your background and short essay responses.
Notifications and Next Steps
If you are selected for a Worthington scholarship, you’ll be informed at your high school’s award night or at your graduation ceremony. To receive funds, you must enroll full-time at the partner college you indicated and continue to meet the Foundation’s semester-by-semester requirements.
Who Can Apply?
The Worthington Scholarship Foundation supports Maine students planning in-state postsecondary study—certificate programs, associate degrees, and bachelor’s degrees are all eligible. The basic eligibility requirements are:

- Enrollment plans: You must intend to enroll full-time in the fall after graduation at one of our partner colleges or universities in Maine.
- Financial need: Your FAFSA must show an SAI of 30,000 or less.

Additional Notes
- Awards take into account both need and merit, and selection aims to reflect a broad cross-section of partner high schools.
- Essays describing your academic goals and life experiences are part of the evaluation.
- Community college recipients may transfer to a four-year institution and remain eligible under the program’s transfer provisions.
- For a complete list of partner high schools and colleges, consult the eligibility/partner network information on our website.
