JAX College Scholarship

Introduction
Many capable students face barriers to attending college because of cost. The Jackson Laboratory’s JAX College Scholarship Program will award three $10,000 scholarships to graduating high school seniors from underserved backgrounds who plan to pursue a college degree and seek careers in biomedicine. Eligible applicants must live in Connecticut, Maine, or Sacramento County, California. The awards reflect JAX’s mission to develop precise genomic solutions for disease and will support students aiming for careers in research or medicine.
Eligibility
- Must be a graduating high school senior.
- Residence requirement: Connecticut, Maine, or Sacramento County, California.
- Candidate must be nominated by a teacher, school administrator, or guidance counselor.
- Demonstrate either significant financial need or first-generation college status (parents have not completed a bachelor’s degree).
- Academic requirement: on track to receive a high school diploma with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 on the standard 4.0 scale (or equivalent).
Key deadlines
- Online teacher nominations open: January 10, 2024
- Teacher nomination deadline: February 15, 2024
- Nominated student application deadline: March 15, 2024
- Scholarship recipients announced: late Spring 2024
Award benefits and expectations
- Three recipients will each receive a $10,000 scholarship.
- JAX will offer internship opportunities for scholars during their college years and sponsor annual campus visits to Bar Harbor, Maine, and Farmington, Connecticut.
- Recipients are expected to maintain strong academic standing and provide periodic updates about their college progress through blog posts and presentations.
