William R. Kimel, P.E., Engineering Scholarship

Introduction
The availability of NSPE Education Foundation scholarships is contingent upon sufficient Foundation funding in the award year. No scholarship will be granted unless funds are available for that annual cycle.
Eligibility
To be considered, applicants must:
- Be permanent residents of Kansas or Missouri.
- Be United States citizens.
- Be currently enrolled, in good academic standing, in a four-year engineering program that is ABET-accredited and located in Kansas or Missouri.
- Be entering or continuing into the junior year in the upcoming fall semester.
Required Application Materials
Applications must include all of the following:
- A fully completed and signed application form.
- An official transcript from the applicant’s current academic program.
- A resume or summary describing internship/co-op positions and other extracurricular or professional activities. Supervisor recommendations may be added for extra consideration.
- Two recommendations from faculty members.
- A 500-word maximum essay titled “My Engineering Career Goals & Aspirations to Achieve Them.”
- A 500-word maximum essay on “The Importance of Ethics in the Practice of Engineering.”
Evaluation Criteria
Submissions will be reviewed using these factors:
- Grade point average.
- Internship/co-op experience and participation in extracurricular or professional activities.
- Honors, scholarships, and awards received beginning with the applicant’s high school senior year.
- Two faculty recommendations.
- Quality and content of the essay responses.
Other Terms
- All applicants will be informed of final selections by Summer 2026.
- Scholarship funds will be paid directly to the recipient’s educational institution in a single installment at the start of the Fall semester.
- The recipient of the NSPE Education Foundation William R. Kimel, P.E., Engineering Scholarship will forfeit the award if the agreed academic year is not completed.
